McHENRY – The McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its second annual Honors Breakfast and Job Fair on Thursday, Nov. 12, at the VFW in McHenry at 3002 W. Route 120. The event will begin with a breakfast at 9 a.m., which will be free to veterans and $5 for others in attendance. The breakfast will focus on the Korean War, and veterans of that conflict will receive free breakfast for themselves and a guest and receive an award. A speech from Marine Col. Paul Weaver will discuss what Veterans Day means, what it's like to be in the military today and how the Korean War veterans inspire today's military. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Phoenix Convention Center, young Valley professionals will find the training and resources they need to get a job at the 100K Opportunities Initiative job fair. They will even have an opportunity to interview with a handful of potential employers. Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton said the event is expected to change a lot of lives. "Over 1,000 kids we expect to be employed as a result of this job fair, and for many of them, this will change the trajectory of their lives in a very positive direction," he said. "This event will change the trajectory of hundreds of young people's lives." Several people stood in line for a job fair Thursday evening, hoping to fill empty slots in the Bibb County government. Representatives from the fire department and sheriff's department informed applicants about vacancies. William Hogan says he's destined to become a firefighter.
