Law enforcement job fair pulls dozens - 13WMAZ

Several people stood in line for a job fair Thursday evening, hoping to fill empty slots in the Bibb County government.

Representatives from the fire department and sheriff's department informed applicants about vacancies.

William Hogan says he's destined to become a firefighter. "I believe it's my calling," said Hogan.

He applied for the position in 2011. He's been on the waiting list since then. The job fair was one way to meet officials face to face, in hopes of giving his application an extra push.

"I actually had one of the guys from the human resource department who's going to look into some things for me to see if he can push something forward," said Hogan.

Within the past few months about fifty fire men retired from Macon-Bibb according.

"It's an opportunity for new recruits," said Commissioner Al Tillman who hosted the event.

Tillman says people need exposure to the available jobs in the county.

Other applicants were more interested in positions at the Sheriff's Department.

"I need a good job, something with benefits, something that's going to set me straight, I need a career," said Kierra Wright.

She says despite the negative press about law enforcement, a job as a deputy is a noble task.

"People look at police and say this and that about them, but all police aren't bad, you do have some good ones out there," said Wright.
