Danville medical marijuana facility holding town hall, job fair this month - Sunbury Daily Item

DANVILLE — Green Thumb Industries, which plans to open a medical marijuana growing plant in Danville, will hold a town hall meeting and a job fair in September.

The town hall with Green Thumb CEO Pete Kadens, a Bucknell University graduate, will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Danville Municipal Building, 239 Mill St., according to Susie Schneider, of Green Thumb Industries in Chicago.

The career fair and job opportunities forum will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in the municipal building.

During the town hall, Schneider said people are urged to ask questions about the marijuana industry and GTI and learn about the benefits of medical marijuana for patients and the economic benefits of the program.

Kadens said he is "very much looking forward" to attending both events in Danville.

"We literally have had thousands of inquiries about jobs from all over the state," he said.

Initially, they expect to hire 30 to 50 people and scale as the market scales and grows and as patients and physicians are more educated, he said. Eventually, he expects to employ 100 at the Iron Town Commerce Center, which is formerly TRW, at East Market and Railroad streets.

One of the reasons for the job fair is to meet people and learn about their qualifications, he said.

"We have absolutely been inundated with resumes. We love that and are very appreciative," he said, speaking by phone from Chicago.

People looking for jobs should bring resumes. They will learn what jobs are available, when hiring will begin and meet the Green Thumb team.

Kadens said renovations to the building will start in September and will take two to three months to complete. The facility is still on track to open in December, he said.

"We continue to be excited to bring jobs to Central Pennsylvania and to Montour County in particular," he said.

Kadens said not only will they create jobs, but the facility will improve people's lives and have a major impact on the community.

"The medicine we produce in Danville we will sell statewide," he said. "We're super excited about the opportunity and the impact we are going to make."

At the public meeting, he encouraged people to ask the hard questions. "They deserve to be educated. We invite tough questions. We want people to be as knowledgeable as they can. The more people from the community, the better."

In June, GTI Pennsylvania LLC was announced as one of 12 companies — and one of two in Pennsylvania's north central region — receiving state approval to grow cannabis for medical purposes in a 50,000-square-foot warehouse. Green Thumb has 11 locations in Nevada, Massachusetts, Illinois and Maryland, including cultivation centers in Nevada, Illinois and Massachusetts.
