With the labor supply tightening — unemployment in the Capital Region fell to 3.6 percent in May from 4.1 percent a year earlier — employers are scrambling to fill open positions. In April, there were 1.1 job seekers for each job opening in the Northeast United States, down from 1.2 a year earlier, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nationally, the labor market was even tighter, with just 0.9 unemployed workers for each job opening. In addition to the FBI, other public-sector employers, including the Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Postal Service, the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, and the Capital District Transportation Authority, are also recruiting. Health care providers at the job fair include St. Peter's Health Partners, All Metro Health Care, and Attentive Care of Albany. The event is free to job seekers, who are advised to bring an updated resume and be prepared for on-the-spot interviews. Resumes will be copied and distributed to recruiters at no charge by eBiz Docs. More details, and a continually updated list of recruiters/exhibitors, may be found at timesunionjobfair.com.
