Tioga Downs holds informational job fair - WBNG-TV

Nichols, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Tioga Downs is beginning the process of preparing for an expanded workforce. The soon-to-be Las Vegas-style casino is expanding with two new restaurants and a variety of table games. Tioga Downs will look to fill more than 400 positions over the course of the next 6 months.

"If you want to be a dealer and work some place full time, if you want to be a dealer just nights and weekends just to add a little extra income or just to do something out of the norm, a lot of people will apply for that," said Karen Shelp, human resource director at Tioga Downs.

Along with positions in the new restaurants and on the tables, the expansion will require more people for positions already established at Tioga Downs.

"I came out to see an opportunity for a security position," said Jesse Watson of Sayre. "I actually just left the Army, so as I transition to school I figured a part time job in security here would be a good opportunity."

No one was offered a position on Monday, but the job fair was an opportunity to show people what will be available.

"It has been non-stop for me," said Bill French, who is the senior director of food and beverage for Tioga Downs. "I have been talking to one person after another."

Tioga Downs is offering both part time and full time jobs. The casino hopes to open with the new expansion this coming July.

Available jobs include poker room, guest services, surveillance, and other areas.

In October, Tioga Downs was "recommended" for the Las Vegas-style casino license by the state's Gaming Facility Location Board.

Owner Jeff Gural has already broken ground on the expansion despite not having final approval for a license from the New York State Gaming Commission.

There is no scheduled date for the announcement of that decision.
