Housing and job fair offers 'HOPE' for northwest Philly | News ... - The Philadelphia Tribune

State Representative Isabella Fitzgerald and Philadelphia City Council members hosted the Home Ownership Prosperity Employment (HOPE) Northwest Housing Conference and Job Fair on Saturday at the West Oak Lane Charter School.

State Representative Stephen Kinsey, State Senator Art Haywood, Councilwoman Cherelle Parker and West Oak Lane CDC joined Fitzgerald in sponsoring the annual event.

The conference provided free information and available hands-on resources for individuals seeking knowledge on owning a home.

The conference featured workshops for current and aspiring homeowners to learn about financial literacy, home repair, reverse mortgages, credit issues and homebuying from experienced professionals within these various industries.

Participants from PECO, Philadelphia Fire Department and more also participated in the job fair.

"We have a job fair because we understand that in order to purchase a home you need to have a job," said Fitzgerald.

The event was filled with people looking to gain leverage in homeowning and seeking new employment opportunities.

"[There are] hundreds of vendors here, and this is a tremendous place to get together and look at the solutions we can provide for each other in this community," said Haywood.

The event concluded with a question and answer briefing and a housing tour of homes for sale in the Northwest region of Philadelphia.

"This is what we need to keep our neighbors alive and keep them thriving. Helping connect our people with access to resources," Parker said.
