Greenwood Chamber of Commerce hosting a job fair for North Tulsa - kjrh.com

TULSA -- The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce will host a job fair for North Tulsa on Friday.

The group is partnering up with Macy's Fulfillment Center for their First Annual Pop up Workforce Development Job Fair.

Rebecca Marks Jimerson, president of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, said it is all about empowering people. She said there is no better way to do it than through jobs.

Jimerson said there is a need for commerce, entrepreneurship and businesses both small and big on the north side of Tulsa.

"If we are empowered through jobs and we have money coming in, we are going to turn over that dollar in North Tulsa and that has got to happen," Jimerson said.

She said there is a high unemployment rate in North Tulsa and often times people do not know where to find a job or have transportation to search for one.

The Greenwood Chamber hopes that by getting people employed, it will give them a seat at the table.

Macy's will be offering holiday jobs at Friday's job fair that pay between $10 and $12.50 an hour. Jimerson said there is an opportunity for it to turn into a full time job, because they are in need of employees.

This is the first annual job fair. The Greenwood Chamber plans to hold their next one in October.

Friday's job fair will be from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at 101 North Greenwood Avenue. They will have computers set up so people can fill out the applications on site.
