Upcoming Colorado Springs job fair targets young adults - Colorado Springs Gazette

Young people looking for work will have a prime opportunity next week.

The Young Adult Job Fair of 2017, with nearly 70 employers who have more than 1,500 positions available, will take place Tuesday at the Hotel Eleganté Conference and Event Center, 2886 S. Circle Drive on Colorado Springs' south side. The job fair runs from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; veterans and eligible spouses can arrive at 11 a.m.

Hosted by the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, the event targets jobs seekers from 16 to 24. Positions include full- and part-time jobs, most of which are in the Pikes Peak region, although some are elsewhere along the Front Range and on the West Slope.

"This is an annual event that changes the lives of young people," Dennis Hisey, the Workforce Center's interim executive director and a former El Paso County Commissioner, said in a news release.

Since January, the Workforce Center has conducted more than 80 workshops and information sessions targeting young people, along with 100 events in high schools, colleges, trade schools, non-traditional learning facilities and youth shelters in El Paso and Teller counties.

Job seekers were provided basic and advanced resume instruction, LinkedIn training and other information to assist them in applying for jobs.

"We emphasize researching companies to arrive informed and have a good plan at the job fair, and conduct timely follow-up with employers they've met, said Erin Hutchinson, PPWFC Training Facilitator. "Employers tell us that job seekers who have attended our workshops are better prepared to discuss their skills and qualifications for positions available."

Job seekers can register for the event at www.ppwfc.org and research participating employers and jobs at http://ift.tt/1owwwDj.
