Kentucky Kingdom hosts summer job fair for ride operators - WDRB

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Kingdom is looking to hire nearly 1,300 employees this summer.

But Thursday's job fair was all about finding the best future ride operators in town.

You could say people come for the fun, but stay for the rides, and officials at Kentucky Kingdom want to make sure they have enough support to provide the best experience for adrenaline junkies.

We're told it's one of the most important jobs in the entire park.

"Our first priority is the safety of our guests," said Lesly Birkner, Director of Operations at Kentucky Kingdom. "We're looking for those that care about people, that are attentive in what they do, and we're also looking for those that really enjoy being around people. The ride operators are the hosts of the attraction.  They're doing everything from greeting the guests to checking height and weight requirements."

And the applicants that attended Thursday's fair believe they're the right people for the job.

"I love a challenge," said Nicolas Lacey, who said he used to operate rides at Six Flags. "I stick to a certain task and I don't steer from it."

Thursday's job fair was open to all adults, 18 years or older. It gives prospective employees a chance to ask questions and learn more about what Kentucky Kingdom has to offer.

Pay ranges from $8-$11/hour and they're looking for roughly 200 ride operators for the summer.

"The ride operators are also there to motivate our guests when they just have a little bit of fear as they're getting on the ride," Birkner said.
