Brownsburg hosts spring job fair - The Hendricks County Flyer

BROWNSBURG — The Town of Brownsburg hosted its second job fair Wednesday afternoon at town hall.

About 65 people attended with 14 area businesses looking to hire, up four from the November job fair.

There was even a waiting list for businesses, but town officials didn't want to push the limits of the room to the point that it would be overcrowded.

"It's a partnership between the town and the businesses here to show them that the town is very interested in their business, helping them grow their business and expand their business here in the community," Greg Anderson, economic development director, said.

There were six new businesses that were part of the town's second job fair.

Suzie Stalcup, assistant vice-president of human resources at Hendricks County Bank, said it was nice that the businesses could participate at no cost to them. By the end of the job fair, she collected about half a dozen resumes for teller positions available at the bank.

"It helps the town, promotes the town and helps our businesses," she said.

Some people came looking for specific positons and others ended up talking with multiple employers.

Tina Tucker heard about the job fair through her sister and decided to stop by.

She was looking for clerical and customer service jobs. She said she has been a part of a job fair before, but not as one looking for a job.

"I made a lot of friends and met a lot of nice people and will hopefully get a job," she said.

For businesses like Volt Workforce Solutions who has an office in downtown Indianapolis, getting out to the west side of town and getting that face to face time is important as the company looks to hire.

"It is important that there are more avenues to get face to face with people," Jason Clendenen with Volt said. "I think the biggest thing for us is it introduced us to people we wouldn't have otherwise met."

Looking ahead, Anderson said he hopes the town will host job fairs in March and August each year, which are typical hiring months for seasonal jobs. If it continues to grow, the town will have to look at a different location to host the event.

"I'm excited for the second one to turn out as well as it did and to have as much interest as we did from our local businesses," Anderson said. "I was pleased and I'm happy it turned out the way it did."

Businesses that participated in the job fair were Brownsburg Parks, Brownsburg Community School Corporation, HomeGoods, Maplehurst Bakeries, Jiffy Lube, Life Sciences Logistics, O'Reilly's Auto Parts, TMC Transportation, American Senior Communities, Hendricks County Bank and Trust, Labor Ready, Work One, Elwood Staffing and Volt Staffing.
