CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Piedmont Workforce Network will be holding a job fair next week in Charlottesville. The fair will take place Nov. 29 at the Virginia Workforce Center on Hydraulic Road from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Several employers will have representatives on site to talk to attendees, including Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Kelly Services, the National Ground Intelligence Center, the University of Virginia Health System, Visiting Angels, Allied Universal, and others. A Canadian transgender job fair organised by a former Kenyan refugee has been criticised for inviting the Canadian army to recruit. Biko Beauttah said she asked military to the event to honour her grandfather, who was a Kenyan major general. But other transgender-rights activists say having the military there is an "affront" to their community. Despite the criticism, Ms Beauttah said the fair will go ahead in Toronto on Trans Remembrance Day on Monday. Ms Beauttah moved to Canada in 2006 as from Kenya, where she said transgender people face discrimination and violence. S he said she spent her first three days in Canada in immigration detention, followed by six months in a refugee shelter.
