Education guidance, a hit among students
The two-day educational guidance programme 'Education Expo -- career in arts, sciences and humanities' organised by the Career and Counselling Cell of the Bharathidasan University at its Khajamalai Campus here proved to be a big hit, with a large number of students participating in it.
The objective of the programme is to properly guide students towards higher educational career in undergraduate, post-graduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D streams. They were exposed to various courses in the faculties of Arts, Sciences and Humanities and to achieve their career of their choice and interest, said N. Prasanna, Co-ordinator of the Career and Counselling Cell.
University faculty members besides faculty from different colleges affiliated to the university including Jamal Mohamed College, M.I.E.T College of Arts and Science, Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, Christhu Raj College, Ideal Institute of Engineering, Aiman College of Arts and Science, Sri Saradha College for Women, Srinivasan College of Arts and Science, Nehru Memorial College, Annai College of Arts and Science, Marudupandiyar College, Swami Dayananda College of Arts and Science, Valluvar College of Science and Management, Subashakthi College of Arts and Science for Women, Mahatma Arts and Science College, Adhavan College of Arts and Science, participated in it and provided information about the various courses offered by them. Students got to know the admission procedure being adopted by these institutes. An estimated 200 students appeared at the expo and got their doubts clarified.
"They entered the fair with a number of riddles in their heart, but most of them got their doubts clarified and appeared clear in selecting their course," said Mr. Prasanna. It is the undergraduate students who posed a lot of questions for pursuing their higher education. Interestingly, parents who accompanied the students, equally posed a volley of questions, indicating their interest for choosing the right career for their wards, he said.
The counselling also came in handy for under-graduates and post-graduates for placement. A large number of students availed themselves of counselling for their career from professional counsellors at the fair.
"We had extended the job fair which was held on Saturday, due to a large number of under-graduates and post-graduates," said Mr. Prasanna. In fact, the services of S. Premanand, from Arrant HR Solutions, Tiruchi, was roped in.
"We conducted interview for scores of students and shortlisted 30 candidates," Mr. Premanand said.
He said that students evinced keen interest in submitting their resume for various posts.
The second and final leg of the counselling would be held on Monday. He specifically said that there was a vast scope for students skilled in hospitality industry and allied services.
Mr. Prasanna said that interview would be conducted on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
