Duluth Trading Co. holds job fair this week - Sioux Falls Argus Leader
New downtown retailer Duluth Trading Co. gets into major hiring mode this week.
The apparel chain will hold a four-day job fair starting Thursday at the Sheraton hotel, 1211 N. West. Ave.
Store manager Dan Geis, who is from Sioux Falls, and two other managers have been hired. But the store still needs several more full-time staff and up to 35 part-time employees.
"We're looking for all types, but we value the more mature and experienced associate," Geis said. "And we've got a great starting wage … and a generous employee discount."
Wages start at $10 per hour for associates but will be more depending on experience and education.
The store at 320 S. Phillips Ave. is taking the first floor of the Foundry, which used to be Tradition's furniture.
"We're very family-oriented," Geis said. "It's not in the mall, so you've got different store hours. We'll close at 5 p.m. on Sunday and 8 p.m. during the week, so that will also attract candidates for us, we think."
The store has started construction and plans to be open in early November. It's the Wisconsin-based brand's first store in South Dakota and ninth retail location. Duluth Trading Co. sells a variety of apparel for men and women, from work wear to casual attire and outerwear.
District manager Mark Pickart is a Sioux Falls native and said expanding into the market is a natural progression.
"Our products are for hard-working men and women who work with their hands, and certainly you get that in South Dakota," he said.
Pickart, who remembers going to his first movie at the State Theater downtown, said he's impressed with the level of activity downtown.
"I love the site," he said. "I was down there on a Wednesday or Thursday night and was amazed with all the activity and traffic down there. I was very impressed with the renaissance that's going on down there."

The event runs Sept. 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., Sept. 5 from 9 a.m until 5 p.m. and Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
